There are so many ways for you to get involved with SUPAS throughout the year. On average, our three shows a year open up 150+ positions across cast, band and tech!
Inclusivity is at the centre of what we do, and we welcome and encourage people of all backgrounds and abilities to get involved.
There is an opportunity to perform in one large-scale musical at the Drama Studio each semester. Other projects comprise a smaller-scale musical in the Autumn semester and a variety of performances at Platform Festival during the Spring Semester.
Our process of auditioning is super relaxed so there's no need to stress! If you audition for a role in the cast, there will be a dancing section, so please wear clothes you can move in (no jeans please!) and bring lots of water. You will then be asked to prepare a song from a selection provided, and be given a extract of script to perform.
If you wish to audition for a place in the band, you will be invited to a separate audition where you will play a piece of selected music for our production team.
Cast and Band auditions will re-open in September.

PRODUCTION TEAM & TECHNICAL CREW
In addition to a cast and band, our shows require a production team and technical crew. Information and application details for forthcoming opportunities are also released through our social media pages, usually at the end of each semester. These roles can include:
Assistant Musical Director / Vocal Coach
Deputy Stage Manager
Assistant Stage Managers
Lighting Designer & Operator
Follow Spot Operators
Sound Engineer & Assistant
Set Designer & Constructors
Costume & Make-up Designers
If you’re interested in applying to be on our next Production Team then send an email to explaining which role you are interested in and why you make a good candidate. You will then be invited to an interview with members of committee.
Or, if being on our Tech Team interests you, come along to our next Tech Call. This takes the form of an informal meeting where you can ask any questions you may have and fill out an application form. Be assured you don't have to have any experience, just lots of creativity and enthusiasm.
Tech Calls will re-open in September.

MUSICAL THEATRE MONDAYS
In September 2019 we introduced a brand new project in the society:
Musical Theatre Mondays is SUPAS' answer to a Glee club! The programme for each semester will consist of collaborative workshops with other performance societies and musical theatre masterclasses taught by our own members! A small performance of our best work will take place in the Spring semester when we take to the stage in our annual SUPAS Showcase at 'Platform Festival'; held in and around the Student's Union in aid of Cavendish Cancer Care.
ANYONE can be a member of Musical Theatre Mondays!
This is a NON-AUDITIONED group, with no need for previous performance experience.
We meet every Monday evening, 7-9pm
Search 'SUPAS presents: Musical Theatre Mondays' on Facebook and join the group for more info!
FRONT OF HOUSE
If you wish to experience working Front of House at one of shows, please email your name and dates of availability to (FAO Kieran - Front of House manager)
In return for your help, SUPAS will provide you with a complimentary ticket so you can see the show for free at another performance time. Front of House is the perfect way to get involved and see a show at no cost to you!
SUPAS ON FORGE RADIO
Alice (radio & comms officer) hosts our own weekly show on Forge Radio. Tune in every
Sunday 7-8pm for an hour of all things musical theatre and SUPAS.
Listen live here:
Our committee comprises 12 different positions that look after varying aspects of the society from publicity to inclusions, and projects to music. Elections to be on committee are held around March each year.
To run for a committee position, you can follow these steps:
1. speak to current members of committee to learn more about their role and what's involved
2. please email with bullet points related to your individual skills,
new ideas for the role and why you are suited to represent the society
3. prepare your speech that lasts up to two minutes and be ready to answer up to
three questions (five minute speech and five minutes of questions for president)
We hold a number of alcoholic and non-alcoholic socials each semester, to hopefully accommodate everyone's interests. Keep up to date on what's coming up via our Facebook page!
Our take on an open-mic night! Sessions is a evening of themed performances where members take to the stage to sing in the company of your SUPAS friends!
SUPAS Goes To See...
We love to support local theatre as much as possible; especially
other performance societies. Whether it's seeing a show at the Lyceum or
cheering on our friends in SUTCo, A Cappella or Chamber Choir - watch out for upcoming
socials on our Facebook page.
Recent socials which have benefited charity and the local community include
singing in a nearby elderly home; Christmas carolling at the Children's Hospital;
promise auctions; raffles and much more!
Campus Leagues Netball
Since 2018, SUPAS have competed in the Campus Leagues netball tournament - and the good news is... you've already made the team! Everyone is welcome to play for Team SUPAS, either as a one-off or every week. Our matches take place on Tuesdays between 12 and 2pm at Goodwin Sports Centre. Buy a Semester pass for £10!
Another annual sports event is our big head-to-head football match against our friends over at Sheffield University Theatre Company (SUTCo). Stay tuned for information about our comeback in the Spring Semester. All of the proceeds go to Cavendish Cancer Care
